1. If you are looking for information on how to donate a car in California, you are at the right place. Donating your old cars to charity involves finding a non-profit organization that accepts car donations. Try to avoid any intermediary agency so that most of your hard-earned money is used for charitable work.
2. The organization to which you are donating your car must have a 501 (c) (3) public charity status. While many organizations claim a non-profit status, donations to organizations not having 501 (c) (3) status are not tax deductible. Some organizations also provide towing services free of cost. So if you wish to donate cars to charity in California you just have to inform the concerned organization. They will do the rest of the work and at the end; you will have to do some paper work.
3. If you are thinking about how you can benefit from donating your car , you must know that you can simply donate cars for tax credit. Donating your old car to charity is a great way of getting a tax deduction. So donating your old car not only benefits the poor but also benefits you.
4. With the increase in car donations, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) became more concerned about how tax payers valued the cars they donated to charity. Before January 2005, the IRS was allowing people to take a tax deduction based on their vehicle’s market value, no matter how much or how little the vehicles sold for. People who donated their cars to a qualified car donation program were eligible to take a tax deduction based on their vehicle’s market value.
5. Determining the market value of a donated vehicle can sometimes be a difficult and time consuming job and due to which determination of the amount of tax deduction was confusing. Fortunately, as a result of the new tax law that went into effect in January 2005 the IRS has made it easier to determine the value of your donated car. The new law allows tax deductions based on the amount the car sold for. In simple words you can donate your car for money.
6. Donating an old car can be beneficial to both you and the charity, as it will result in tax deduction for you and some cash for the charity. Choose a charity and verify their tax exemption status. Ask your charity to show their tax exemption paper work. If you have not yet chosen a charity, you can have a look at IRS.gov for a list of charities that meet the requirements
7. Donating a car in Maryland can be quite hassle free. You just need to find out the charity that is qualified to receive car donations. Selling your old vehicle can be a real difficult job. It involves dealing with potential buyers or dealerships, which is time consuming. Advertising in newspaper or local TV can be costly. The process could take days, weeks or even months and still you may have to compromise on the price.
8. If you wish to donate a car in Maryland you can also opt for online vehicle donation. It is preferred by most of the donors and is convenient. So car donation could not be simpler and the tax benefits are solid.
9. There are middlemen, who are ready to help in every way with your car donation but avoid them. The middleman company will take fifty percent of the value of the car and the rest will be used for charitable work.
10. It is important that you have your paper work in order before donating a vehicle. Also make sure you keep records of the entire donation process. Keep the receipt and all tax forms somewhere safe. So when tax season rolls around you have all the documents you need. Take photos of the vehicle and any receipts that might be needed in future.
11. The problem with some of these organizations is that most of the money is not going to a charitable cause. But it ends up in the pockets of unscrupulous persons. Check to make sure that the money gained from car donations actually goes to the poor and needy people. All charitable organizations cannot legitimately get a tax deduction for those who donate so make sure that your one can.
12. If a charitable organization guarantees you a certain amount of tax deduction for your donation, look realistically at whether they will be able to get you the said figures or not.
13. Some charitable organizations make people pay fees to donate their car. These might be in the form of towing fees or other charges. Remember, car donation is an act that gives value to a receiving organization. It is better to stay away from such organizations as they may not be a legitimate charity organization.

If the above reasons are not enough for you to donate your car, think about the underprivileged children around you . Your donation can make a difference in their life. You can donate your car for kids. There are charitable organizations working only for children.  When you donate your car, you support the ongoing effort to make sure that every kid can enjoy his/her childhood.
